Ryan has a girlfriend...Shannon, who he invited to Senior Prom. She is such a sweetie and they have so much fun together. Here is a picture they had taken when they went on the Star of Honolulu dinner cruise for their "anniversary." He said they pretended to be a honeymoon couple from England and spoke with British accents. He is sad now since she is away at school in Washington State.
Shannon even helped out when the Kamehameha band needed help at a couple of convention gigs. These were during the summer so the attendance was low and they needed more band members for a good showing. The band director also made an error in booking the second gig, which he thought was for dinner, but was actually for breakfast, when the band kids were in summer school. He called me the night before, when the band was at the venue for a rehearsal, telling me we needed to alert everyone and ask for help. So we started calling and posting on Facebook and wound up with a lot of alumni (even back to 2001!) and a younger sister and Shannon! The band didn't sound the best but they looked impressive (even if a mother showed up uninvited and stepped on a letter sign and broke it!). That was a stressful night and morning...who knew there were band emergencies!

Ryan got a tattoo.
This is how it looks after two sessions. The first one was on July 18 and the tattoo artist did the outline. The next one was a couple of weeks ago and some of the shading was done. The final one is this coming weekend and color will be added.
I'm not happy about it but at least it is mostly covered by his shirt sleeve. And the place he did it (808 Tattoo) is reputable and clean and even was named "Best in Honolulu."
He also pierced his ears.
Sigh.
Surprisingly, my parents were ok with it. And Ryan and I had huge fights about this prior to him doing it. But once he went and did it, I was ok. Main thing is that he loves it and it can be covered by clothing in case he looks for a job that doesn't allow tattoos. He is even planning the other arm's tattoo, something with a "matching story."
Sigh.
Ryan moved out, into my friend's parents' house in Pauoa. Prior to this, we did massive clean-up, as the house had not been occupied in a while and was still full of their things. It was a lot of work, but it looks great! His two roommates moved in and they are getting along well.
Ryan also started school. His first week was a roller-coaster ride, but more about this later.
