david & risa's wedding

We were so honored to be included in the celebration of the marriage of our friends Rose and Willie's son David and his wife Risa.  Darrell used to work with Rose at Waialae Country Club in 1989-1991.  He also used to play tennis with Willie and we would go out with them as a couple with other friends Dorinda and Lloyd.  After we moved to Kauai, Rose, Willie, and their son David (then known as DJ) even came to visit us.  Over the years, we lost touch, and it's only due to the magic of Facebook that we reconnected.

It was a beautiful day.  The club has been recently renovated and Darrell and I were both impressed.  I had also worked there during college, from 1980-1984 as their weekend "Girl Friday" (my old boss' words from his letter of recommendation), answering phones, auditing restaurant, snack bar and golf and pro shop sales and doing revenue reports, taking restaurant reservations, and anything else members needed over the weekend.



The last time we saw David he was a little boy.  Here he is with his best man, waiting for the ceremony to begin.  David and Risa actually were married in a civil ceremony on January 16, but wanted a "real" ceremony with family and friends.














Here Risa is walked down the aisle by her mother.  They are from Japan.

The wedding details were wonderful.

Beautiful centerpieces (we "won" the tallest one to bring home).

Little "suitcase" favors with chocolate covered macadamia nut candies inside, in keeping with the "destination wedding" theme (guests came from all over the U.S. mainland as well as Japan and Korea).













Their 1000 cranes were arranged into a representation of the Hawaiian flag.  David and Risa have made Hawaii their home.















David's Filipino heritage was represented by the lechon whole roasted pig and the Filipino dance performances.
















We left before the end but we saw this decorated golf cart outside.  So cute!












We were able to get a quick photo with Rose and Willie before we left.  So glad we were able to be part of this important event and so happy to see our old friends again.
