ryan's birthday dinner

We wanted Ryan's 18th birthday to be special so we chose the new Morimoto Waikiki Restaurant at The Edition Waikiki (formerly the Yacht Harbor Tower of the Ilikai Hotel).  Ryan loves watching the Food Channel and cooking shows, especially "Iron Chef."

Uncle Craig ordered wine and the waiter served all of us, including Ryan without carding him.  And Ryan drank all his wine!

My pictures didn't come out, but all of the dishes were presented so nicely.  Ryan and Darrell both had the "surf and turf," 6 oz prime filet, morimoto style poke and salt crusted fingerling potatoes (see picture).  Yeah, we didn't know what they were when they were served; even after tasting them, we weren't completely sure what they were :)  But it was good.  I had the "chef's loco moto," morimoto's take on loco moco, wagyu beef, sunny side egg, hayashi gravy and fukujinzuke.  I had seen it earlier when we went there for lunch for my boss's birthday and wanted to try it.  It was delicious!

Happy birthday Ry!
