iron chef

After I posted the photos of Ryan making us dinner on Facebook, a former co-worker who is now a personal chef with a private catering business asked me if Ryan was interested in applying for a job with him.  Ry's interview wound up being an "Iron Chef"-type test where he was given a "mystery basket" of items and given two hours to come up with a meal.  He was given a rack of lamb, wasabi peas, sesame seeds, ginger, shiitake mushrooms, vanilla soda, coffee, Okinawan sweet potato and cauliflower.

Even though he never cooked lamb before, he wound up making a wasabi pea and sesame crusted rack of lamb with a coffee, shiitake mushroom sauce and caramelized sweet potato.

He got the job!  He will be sous chef for a private catering event on July 6.  As I'm writing this, I'm hoping he'll call me so I can find out how it went.

I told him that the chef must have really trusted that he would do well because it was an expensive interview.  We saw a similar package of lamb at Foodland that cost $22!

Side note:  I'm so glad that Mom is still the one he calls first when something great happens...he called me as soon as he was done with his interview, so happy about how it went!  So proud of him.
