We got our trip shirts, lanyards, luggage tags, and tour book this weekend. We had a final trip meeting with the tour coordinator and the 9 boys (including Ryan) we are chaperoning. Helped pack the band uniforms to be shipped via cargo to Japan. The kids are practicing for their three performances in Japan (at Kyoto Train Station, Tokyo Disneyland and a Tokyo high school). Have been picking up little things that I think we will need over the last few weeks. Got yen. Totally not feeling ready. Have been so busy over the last few weeks that I haven't been feeling excited yet. Little panicked yes, but not too excited. I'm sure that will come soon.
At work, I am constantly stopping to write notes in my planner about everything that pops into my mind to do. And I have to remember things for Darrell and Ryan as well since they don't think of these things.
There will be 215 of us traveling, students, school staff, chaperones, bus captains, flight captains, and accompanying family and friends. We are flying on three different flights going over and five flights coming back. And not all the flights go directly to where we need to be; our first stop is Osaka but we fly into Narita and then take another flight to Itami Airport in Osaka. Another group flies in Nagoya and then buses to Osaka. Then there are bus assignments from the airport, which are different from the ground bus assignments. Mind-boggling.
So much coordination and work has been involved, so many details to be worked out. One example: the band will be wearing their white shoes to perform and we are shipping them via cargo to make sure all of the kids have their shoes when we get to Japan. The senior boys and those students playing in the band at commencement need their white shoes on May 29. We leave on June 1. So parents are going to be collecting the shoes after commencement so that they can be packed and shipped out the day before we fly.
