graduation season begins

My friend Bev's son Matthew graduated from Pearl City High School and Darrell, my friend Teri June and I went to congratulate him and his mom.  So proud of you, Matt, and all your accomplishments!  Here are just a couple of the articles about him:  Citizenship Award from the Hawaii Hotel and Lodging Assn and the Pearl City Community Assn scholarship.  And I posted a pic of him when he and Ryan (and Shannon) were little here.

We wound up parking across the street from NBC and stopped at our alma mater McKinley High School to take a picture.  It's such a beautiful school.  Commencement is always in front of the admin building and graduates get to walk across the "Oval" where President William H. McKinley's statue stands.  The tradition is tht it's forbidden any other time, out of respect.  The trees on the lawn have letter signs on them; that's where the graduates go to greet family and friends after graduation.

Seems like there are a lot fewer graduates than when we graduated...we had 800+ in our class and the bleachers stretched across the entire front of the building.
