ipops 2011

As I labeled my photo album of the event on Facebook:  it was the "best.pops.ever."

The "Pops Concert" is the last major performance for the band for the year.  Instead of a regular concert, it's actually a dinner show.  The seniors choose the theme, design and make all the decorations, pick the menu, and dress up according to the theme.  Ryan and his friends came up with an "iPod" theme, which quickly became "iPops 2011."  The theme was a refreshing change from the past three years, which were some variation of animation/video games.

The freshmen were the waithelp for the pupu and dinner service and were dressed all in black, like "roadies."  The freshmen moms who supervised them even made them ID "backstage pass" name badges.  The sophomores dressed as country-western stars, juniors were rockers, and the seniors came as music stars.  Ryan, Ka'ala and Joel came as the Jonas Brothers, of all things, with tight jeans, long sleeve shirts and vests.  Thanks to Jamiee for the great picture of their entrance, through the iPod!

The traditional "senior wall" was made up of old records from Jelly's. (I'm sure most of the kids don't even know what a record player looks like!)

The seniors even put together a cut-out wall for people to take pictures with.  Ryan is the "girl" with Justin Bieber, Ka'ala was Lady GaGa, Joel was Van Halen and John is lying on the floor.  All of them also performed in a band with Ryan on guitar, Joel on bass, Ka'ala singing, John with his sax on "Careless Whisper" and a freshman Ryse on drums.  They did a great job.  Ryan also soloed on guitar when the entire band played "Sweet Child o' Mine" and another number.

Although we were at the gym at 7 am to help set up and I still had to help a little with the cash, it was a really relaxing evening not having to work the whole time (senior parents get to enjoy this one, after working the past three years).  We even got to dance with our seniors to the traditional "Moonlight Serenade."

And here are all the seniors in their costumes!  Congratulations, Class of 2011, on your final Pops Concert!
