scott & rayni's wedding

My cousin Steve and his wife Bobbie's son Scott married his longtime girlfriend Rayni the Saturday before Christmas at Waialae Country Club.  We hadn't had a wedding in the family in a while so it was nice to have an occasion to celebrate.

They were only able to invite my dad and aunty (out of our large extended family) to the wedding because of the size of the venue, but Bobbie wanted Darrell and me to come too.  I told  her I would just drop Dad and Aunty off but she invited us.  I got Jan to come instead of Darrell.  It was nice to spend time just with her.  Darrell and Craig had a guy's night and went out for sushi.

Waialae was all decked out for the holidays.  As mentioned before, I used to work at Waialae, and loved how they decorated for Christmas.  They used to have a whole gingerbread village in the lobby, across from the front desk I used to work at, and the scents of gingerbread and real Christmas trees was the best ever.  No gingerbread this year, but the decorations were spectacular.

The wedding had nice touches and details.  I love seeing how couples personalize their weddings.  Since it was
close to Christmas, their invitation had their photo in an ornament and there were lots of sparkly things.

And the weather was great for their outdoor wedding, nice and cool, and beautiful views.

Got a quick photo of the family while they were posing for the photographer on the beach.

Dad and Aunty waiting for the ceremony to start.

Another shot of the wedding site.

Here is Scott, the groom, before his surprise performance, dancing down the aisle.

The whole wedding party, including the parents, boogied down the aisle to different songs.  Very cute!  Bobbie had mentioned to me that she hoped we would be there for the ceremony because Scott and Rayni had planned something "different."  We didn't know how different!  But I guess it reflects their fun personalities.

Rayni and her dad faked us out by entering to a more traditional music, then stopped here and started dancing down the aisle too.

After the ceremony, they had a long cocktail/pupu time while the couple took more photos.

My cousin Steve couldn't wait to show us what he had on under his suit!

And of course, he had to show us the matching socks!

They had a fun photo booth too, but I didn't scan those pics yet.

Nice photo of Dad, Bobbie, Steve, and Aunty Shige.

Right after this, Dad and Aunty were talking about going home, since it seemed like a long time until dinner and a long night ahead.  But they decided to stay.

More of the details at the tables.  Someone had passed out the dowels with ribbons attached for guests to wave as the couple were pronounced husband and wife and walked/danced back up the aisle.  There were a couple of favors - homemade fabric luggage tags with our table assignments and glass coasters.

Another personalized touch was the wine label, with a photo and verbiage about how they met.

Jan and I were busy talking (we sat with my cousin Kari, Dad and Aunty were with Steve and Bobbie), and didn't notice until later that everyone around us had gotten the go-ahead to hit the buffet except us.  I told Kari, hey Aunty Kari (she's Scott's aunty), don't you have any pull?  Why can't we eat yet?  She started waving her lei jokingly to get the banquet captain's attention!  Luckily we got the call right after.  It was already past 7:30 and we were hungry!  But right before every table could go eat, they went up to the dance floor to take a group photo with the couple.  That was a nice way to do it, since there were long tables instead of round, and it would have been difficult to try to take a group shot at each table.

This was a cute way to display their 1001 cranes:  a doll case with little figures of them and tiny silver cranes in the case.

Congratulations Scott and Rayni!  Thanks for letting us be a part of your special day!

(They had a second reception the following week for the rest of the family but we weren't able to attend.)
