Green Day

Ryan had the idea of making class tshirts saying "weeha" (kinda like the cowboy "yee-haw"), which they call out during their men's song for Song Contest, "A 'oia." Their class color is green. We drove all over on Sunday looking for tshirt transfer paper that will work on dark colored shirts. I finally found some at Walmart so we went for it.

Ry picked the font and color, printed the words on the transfer sheets, cut them out, and ironed them on the shirts, front and back (with just a little help from me). He wound up making six (and one sample earlier) that he is giving to his friends and Keola, their song leader.

His plan was to make them and sell them but the school has regulations so he has to clear it with them first. He also found that the process is pretty labor-intensive and it takes a while to make each shirt so even though we had a couple more blank shirts, he was over it last night after finishing six!

This is the sophomore men's song, composed by John K. Almeida:
A`oia a e lilo ana `oe ia`u, ahahana
Onaona kô maka i `ane`i e ka ipo
Wahine u`iHe u`i i`o nô ka wahine leo hone
He manu leo le`a `ia o ke kuahiwi
Na`u `oe, na`u no e lei ha`aheo
Li`a wale aku nô ka mana`o la i laila
Ho`ohihi
Ua noa kô nui kino na`u ho`okahi wale nô
Me `oe a`u pumehana kâua
Me a`u `oe `olu nei nei pu`uwai
Aia lâ lilo ana lilo `oe ia`u

That's it, I am going to win you, oh, oh
Your pretty eyes are attracted hither
O lovely dear
You are pretty indeed and your voice is so sweet
Like a sweet-voiced bird of the mountain
You are mine, mine to cherish with pride
For my thoughts are drawn there to you,
My fancy taken
You are all mine and mine alone
With you I find the warmth of love
Having you with me soothes my heart
There now, you are won, won by me

Their co-ed song, also composed by Johnny Almeida, is Ku'u Ipo Pua Rose.
