Sophomore Biathlon

Posting more than one pic in Blogger is a pain...it is so hard to move them around in a post.

Anyways, today was the Freshman 10K Run and the Sophomore Biathlon. Ryan did the 10K Run last year with a bad ankle but he finished. This year he had to swim the length of Ala Moana Beach Park (800 meters) and run 4 miles (two times around the entire park), to complete the school's physical education requirement.

Here's a photo of the kids when they got to Magic Island on the bus, acting goofy as always. They had taken sharpies and drawn all over their bodies. They dropped off their running shoes and change of clothes in designated areas (separated by PE teacher), then were bused to the Ewa end of the park in their swimsuits, caps and leg monitors, which kept track of their swim/run times.

Here's what they looked like in the water, just a bunch of bobbing heads in yellow or orange caps.

He doesn't like this picture, but here he is coming out of the water at the end of the swim. He said he was wiped out. Even though they've been training for this all year, swimming laps in the pool and resting a little in between laps is nothing like swimming continuously for 800 meters.

Here he is at the end of the four miles - front and back views, heading towards the finish line. He wanted me to post the back view to show off his powerful legs!

And here he is with the finisher tshirt! His time was 1 hour 25 minutes, not as quick as some of his classmates, but definitely quite an accomplishment.
