The Kapolei Marching Band Festival was on November 13 and this was their first tournament. The band was really looking forward to this tournament because it was the only one which would be a "real" competition for them. At our Tournament of Bands, they play as "exhibition" only, since they are the hosts, they don't compete. At the University of Hawaii Rainbow Invitational, they are judged and receive feedback from the judges, but they don't compete. The Mililani Band Tournament is the tournament that they look forward to competing at, since all the AAA bands (especially arch-rival Moanalua) usually attend. However, this year, Kapolei decided to host a tournament; it was originally set for the end of October, but they moved it to November 13, which would normally be when Mililani hosts their tournament. Mililani had to move their tournament to the following week because a cheerleading competition booked the field and many of the schools felt was too late as many were moving on to the Christmas season.
The band did great! They got the highest Superior rating, but lost to Moanalua 93.8 vs 93.4. But we all thought they should have won. Moanalua is showy because of sheer numbers. But I'm prejudiced!
