soba and merry making

For our annual holiday get-together, Teri June invited us to the MOA Wellness Center where she works, to participate in a soba noodle making class.  There were two great instructors, Steve and Mai, who showed us how to mix buckwheat and white flours with water to make a dough, roll it out and then cut thin strips to make soba noodles.

We then boiled the noodles and ate them with a delicious dipping sauce and tempura vegetables that MOA staffers Sue and Ken made for us.  It was a lot of fun and a great way to interact with and spend time with each other.

Here's my finished product!  It looked more like chow fun noodles than soba noodles, but it was just the right consistency and delicious.  Ryan's and Darrell's noodles didn't come out as good, by their own admission.

A bonus was that all the families could be there!  Usually Ryan and Nathan are working or Matt is away or Sue's family has another party.  So nice to see everyone.  Deb's nieces Corrie and Caitlyn, Lauren's boyfriend Allen, and Celine's boyfriend Kevin and baby Kellan also were able to join us.

And speaking of Kellan, he was a hoot!  He has such an infectious, adorable laugh and such a great disposition.  We had a lot of fun with him, trying to make him laugh because it was so cute!

I captioned this picture, "hand over that camera so I can take some selfies!"

And he did…my iPhone has a whole bunch.  He's pretty good at using the phone to take pics of himself and he enjoys looking at them too.
