The first on December 13 was with almost all the accounting and finance staff for the company. I used to work in the corporate office and with many of these people directly so it was great to see them all again and get out of the office for a little while. Lunch was at Wolfgang's Steakhouse at the Royal Hawaiian Center.
Next up was lunch at Tanaka of Tokyo with our Executive Team. It was nice to spend time together outside the office and get to know each other better.
Our chef Mike put on a terrific show…definitely the most skilled teppan chef I've ever seen!
Last, on December 20, got together with my staff for lunch and grab-bag exchange. We went to Yuzu. The menu is a little different from regular Japanese food (like the sign says, "not your grand/mother's Japanese cuisine"). We tried their famous lotus root (renkon) pizza, which was surprisingly good.
Once we got back to the office, we did a grab-bag exchange. We picked numbers and got to choose a gift or "steal" something someone else already chose. Then, for a twist, we did a "right-left" game where our Asst General Manager assisted us by reading a version of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" that had a lot of "right" and "left" words added. We stood in a circle and whenever he said "right" we had to pass the gift to the right, and whenever he said "left" we passed the gift to the left. It was fun and everyone seemed to enjoy it.
It was a nice end to the week of parties…and the start of my vacation, the first week off I've had (and first time for pleasure, not because someone was in the hospital) since September 2012.
