OMG, the news over the past couple of days has been so disturbing...first thing Thursday morning I heard about the woman clubbed to death by her boyfriend in a street in Kailua, then after lunch there's news that a baby was thrown off a pedestrian overpass onto H-1 freeway and then hit by cars, and that the guy who did it seems totally high or crazy, and then that no one knew whose baby it was. I was just a wreck all day. Then yesterday, there's more news about the baby, how he wandered off earlier in the day and had to be returned by police, video of the mother (filmed in front of the hotel Darrell works at, where she is apparently staying) going off on the guy, trying to dispute claims by the newspaper that she had let the crazy guy babysit her baby, how her kids had been taken away before and how she was on drugs too at one time. Whole thing is tragic, but preventable? Kept checking the news online during the day, looking for information, answers. How could something like this have happened?
2007, the Year of the Golden Pig, was not a good year for us. I had hopes for 2008, the Year of the Rat, but so far Darrell's Uncle Emil "Junior" passed away and his Aunty Lani from Molokai is at Queens in ICU. Not a good start so far. Let's hope things will be getting better from now.
