moanalua menehune classic

The Moanalua Menehune Classic was the first band tournament of this marching season.  I didn't realize that it was set up as the first tournament so that bands could receive an assessment of their performances so that they could improve for upcoming tournaments.  In four years in high school band, this was our first time attending this tournament; we had football games during Ryan's first two years, so the band stopped by to play, then went on to Aloha Stadium to play at the games. Last year, Moanalua coincided with the Senior Lu'au so the students decided not to participate.  

The band did wonderfully, doing their entire show.  Tried to upload my video, which showed Ryan conducting, but the file is probably too big.  Here's a link to a youtube version:  "Seasons of Love."

Ryan was asked to go up to represent the band when it was time to receive their scores.  Also representing the band were (in white, left to right):  Keola, the drum major, Nainoa, the Kalalea band student council president, Mahina, the color guard captain, and Ryan.

Their scores:

Music - Superior (the highest level)

Marching and Maneuvering - Excellent (second highest level)

Drum Major - Superior (yay, Ryan and Keola!)

Color Guard - Superior

Percussion - Superior

The kids were thrilled with their performance too, which is even more important than the scores.  What a great start to the tournament season!
